Pantone colour of the year: EMERALD GREEN

Pantone has revealed that the colour for 2013 is emerald green. I know many of us are dying to incorporate the emerald green in to our wardrobes. However, it’s always best to start small. Not all Colours or hues suit everyone. Sometimes we can like a colour but when we try it on we may just change our minds. Starting out small allows us to try the colour and reactions out. So, why not go out and buy some green nail polish. You can play around with the emerald green hues. The great thing about nail art is that it’s a small surface area of your body that you are trying the colour on. With Christmas around the corner, green nails will be very festive.

The problem to remember with finding emerald green nail polish is that there aren’t much green options to choose from in stores right now. Around spring we will see more emerald green nail polishes in stores in a larger variety.

Here are some great emerald nail polishes to choose from:

The new fragrance from Marni

Marni have decided to move into the fragrance business.

Just like every other major successful fashion house, Marni is now launching its first ever fragrance. If it’s anything like the line itself then we can expect it to be fun and quirky. The first fragrance is named after the house itself Marni.

In a recent interview Marni’s creative director Consuelo Castiglioni told WWD “It’s a perfume that is quite individual, that doesn’t evoke anything in particular”. It’s for a woman who dresses for herself, who doesn’t follow trends but is sophisticated and also maybe a little eccentric.”

Castiglioni choose a flacon that is distinct and sturdy and unique in shape. Marni has stayed away from a sleek, slender bottle as that has become the norm in the fragrance market. WWD also reported that the smell of the perfume to be “a blend of spicy and woody notes” with an “intense rose oil to inject voluptuousness”.

My verdict so far is that Marni has really thought of all the ways to set itself apart from all the other designer fragrances. From the flacon (in other words the bottle design) to the simple advert to accompany the fragrance launch. Marni has kept everything simple and uncomplicated and that has in turn made everything about it more appealing. I see this as a wise and a successful move for Marni.

Marni’s first fragrance will be launched February 2013.

High street jackets

One thing that the British high street has is many fashionable shops. You can shop on your local high street knowing you can buy everything you need. This season the high street is packed with amazing detailed jackets.

There has become a trend of high street fashion becoming red carpet fashion. This means that we can now wear what our favourite celebrities wear.

 BeyoncĂ© in Topshop

Cheryl Cole in Asos

Amanda Seyfreid in H&M

With the strong power of the British high street we can now afford celebrity style without the huge price tag.

Shops such a Topshop, Zara, Mango, River Island and H&M have become a shopping destination for the rich and famous. These shops now design and cater for a celebrity market, which means we are also able to afford clothes that they wear.

This season look out for the amazing jackets in these shops. Go for leather, studs, colour, prints and floral.

How to do leather

This A/W embrace the trend of leather. Leather always seems to pop up every other season, whether it returns in a big way or small, it always returns.

The great thing about leather is that it always looks good if it’s worn correctly. There are some simple rules that you can follow to make sure you look chic in leather.

1.    Don’t over style- if you have decided to wear a leather skirt or trousers then pair it with a simple separate in a different texture.

2.    Two- tone- try to go for different tones in your leather such as patch work or details. This helps to break the look down.

3.    Double up- this season it’s okay to double up the amount of leather separates you wear. Try mixing colours up.

4.    Heavy metal- the perfect match for leather is metal. Add metal accessories to your outfit, however don’t overdo it.

Here are my tips on wearing leather. I hope these tips are handy when it comes to looking stylish in leather.

Ralph Lauren

The man, the vision, the style.

For all those who love fashion design and want to read something inspirational, then you must read this book about the American fashion designer.

This is not your ordinary story that portrays a happy picture about success. This is a more harsh reality of how to break into the fashion industry.

The author of the book Colin McDowell was given unprecedented access to Ralph, his family and his colleagues. With access to behind the scenes, Colin was able to ask Ralph the more personal and private questions about his upbringing, lifestyle, disappointments, triumphs, and hardships.

The interesting this for me to learn about the designer was that he had no design training, nor did he grow up with the passion of becoming a designer.  This book really shows what hard work, optimism and passion can do. This book tells us about the life of a Jewish boy who grew up in the Bronx and enjoyed wearing unique clothes so he can stand out from the crowd. It goes to show us how a simple idea about a tie and a great business mind can do.

This man has changed the face of American fashion and he still remains one of the best designers of all time.

Karl Lagerfeld Paris

Karl Lagerfeld Paris is the Premium ready-to-wear collection for both men and women by Karl.

The creative genius is striking again. This time Karl has designed the premium line Karl Lagerfeld Paris. This line was launched this Autumn/ Winter.  We can expect the finest fabrics and finishing’s by Karl.

So far the new collection from the line bridges a gap between women’s wear and men’s wear. This is a three tiered collection of luxurious and playful separates with major detailing as usual.

What’s About Town

With the latest trend in jewellery being large cocktail rings, there was one on line site that I could think of that would have the most fabulous pieces at the most reasonable prices.
What’s About Town is an online jewellery website, catering to both men and woman. Since trading in 2003, there business has grown from strength to strength.
They have the most interesting and unique jewellery pieces. This is one of the main reasons why their jewellery has been worn by the likes of Paris Hilton, Cheryl Cole, Kim Kardashian and more.

I must recommend their rings as a must buy. Literally they have ring designs they you may be unable to find elsewhere. Not only do they cater to the obsessive jewellery fans, but they also sell other accessories.

Here are some of my favourite designs from their collection.

                       Check out their website: http://www.whatsabouttown.com/

Halston’s back

By hearing Halston’s back, many fans must be excited. I know I am!!!! As he’s one of my all-time favourite designers, I know that this is good news for the fashion house. It’s been many years since we’ve seen the brand being reformed back to its original self. Halston Heritage is being taken back to its 70’s super-luxe, super-chic roots. With new investors and a new design duo we can now relax knowing that the house is in safe hands. Since this big change many celebrities have been seen wearing the Halston brand, bringing it back into the lime light that it clearly deserves.

So what do you guys think of this change for Halston Heritage? Will they reform the brand back to its original roots?

Karlie Kloss in Vogue

We all know that Vogue chooses to put the top celebrities and supermodels on their covers. Well, for this September’s important issue, 19 year Karlie Kloss graces not 1 but 2 covers. At the tender age of 19, Karlie is in Vogue USA and Japan.

Chicago born Karlie was established at the tender age of 13 and soon signed on to Elite Model management in 2007. Since being scouted at a charity fashion show this 19 year old has modelled for Dior, Donna Karen, Nina Ricci, John Paul Gaultier, YSL, McQueen, Gap and many more. She is still highly sought after, just in 2011 she signed a contract with the biggest lingerie brand, Victoria’s secret.

As you can see that Karlie is fast making her way to becoming the next biggest supermodel.

So which cover do you prefer? The light, fun happy cover or the darker edgier cover?

Blazers are one staple piece that never seems to go out of fashion. They are stylish and versatile, that’s why every woman must have one. The good thing about blazers is that there are many colours, cuts and shapes to choose from.
This season the runways were full with blazers from designers such as Rag and Bone and Mary Katrantzou. You are sure to always find a blazer that will be within your budget.

This spring, remember the brighter the blazer, the better!!

Here are my top 5 picks

Tom Ford Beauty Spring 2012

This season we see Tom Ford launch his beauty and cosmetics range. His inspiration for the line came from the look of a natural tan and glow. This line includes everything from a Bronzer, Prima, Nail Polish and Lip glosses. He offers the full range to give every woman the natural tan for the summer.

He launched two ad campaigns to promote the line.

The first ad is the Metallic Goddess

The second ad is the Bronze Goddess

I have to say that I was not fond of the second ad. The first one reminded me of an old school classy, simple, editorial like ad showing the cosmetics. The second ad places too much emphasis on the hair, making it take the eye away from the make-up.

So which is your favourite ad campaign?

S/S 2012 Bag Trends

This season we have many options of bags to choose from. We have seen many bag trends this season making it hard to choose our favourite one. The trends range from , black and gold, bold colours, semi-transparent, reptile skins, neon accented, nude peachy tones, basket bags and retro inspired.
With all these options have you spotted your new favourite bag??

The British beauty

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

She has graced many high fashion magazine covers, has a Victoria’s secret contract, is dating a movie star, is the face of Burberry and has even appeared in her first feature film for Michael Bay, all at the age of 24. WOW!!

So where did it all begin for this 5ft 9in beauty? And is she the next Gisele or Kate moss? These are some of the questions that fashion industry experts will be discussing and asking themselves as they prepare for ad campaigns and fashion week. What impact does Rosie Huntington have on fashion and is it the same as the Brazilian beauty Gisele who can still make anything sell and who designers still want to book, even after being in the industry for over 10 years.

Rosie was born in Devon, England. She was bullied at school for her awkward looks and her full lips. When she was in college she was discovered by Profile model management, whilst she was undertaking an internship at a modelling agency where she was serving tea. She had no attentions of becoming a model. At the age of 16 she landed a gig with Levi’s, posing for their commercial.

She has stepped into the limelight thanks to her gig for VS. Since signing on as one of their angels in 2009, Rosie has graced the ad campaigns for the like of Prada, Karen Millen and Burberry. She has walked on the catwalk for Victoria’s secret, Animale and Andres Sarda.
Most recently Rosie starred in the blockbuster movie Transformers 3, replacing Megan Fox.
So where does this leave Rosie? And what can we expect from her in the future? So to speak it did take Rosie time to gain the recognition that she wanted. At the begging she paid her dues and worked her way up. She once graced the ads for the British high street brand Monsoon and now is the face for Burberry. The future for Rosie seems bright, there are many avenues that she can and will take. Most likely she will do more movies, continue modelling, and just maybe one day decides to launch her own bag or shoe line. She is still young and has many options to explore. We will defiantly see more of her in the coming years.

Only time will tell if she lives up to the likes of Gisele Bundchen, Adrianna Lima, Kate Moss, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell and Tyra Banks. However, she is on the right path, so make space for a new top Model!

D&G- One last time

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are the creators of D&G. It was launched 9 years after the creation of their main line. The D&G line was created with urban influences. It was catered to more of a younger market. This line is a more contemporary, sensual, forward, and innovated line.

Last September the kings of Milan fashion week made an announcement just before the models graced the catwalk that the younger sibling to Dolce and Gabbana was to shut down (D&G) in order for them to concentrate on their main line.

It’s left many industry professionals baffled by the all of a sudden closure of the brand. Many have speculated that it may be due to the recent degrading of Italy and maybe due to the effects of the financial crisis. However, reports claim that the D&G line has been out performing the Dolce and Gabbana line in many Asian markets. D&G is a very profitable brand; therefore the financial crisis has nothing to do with the closure of the line. So that leaves us with, did customers get confused between the two lines and was there no actual difference between the two lines? Some have suggested that customers were confused between the names of the two lines. But does that lead one to close down a highly successful contemporary line?

It is expected that Dolce and Gabbana will expand their brand into more casual categories such as T-shirts and jeans. Well, that will at least leave us with best of both worlds.
Whatever the story is behind the closure of the D&G line, all I can say that it is one of the best contemporary lines in history. It combined both luxury and style into one.

Take a look at some of their best pieces from their collections.

ENJOY!!

Vera Wang- LOVESTRUCK

This month for my birthday one of the gifts I received was Vera Wang’s Love Struck perfume. I have been waiting for ages to actually buy it. Well now that I have it, it’s become my favourite all time perfume. My normal choice of perfume I would go for is Armani Diamonds, since then I never thought that I would find a perfume that smells that good. Well guess what, there’s a new perfume in town and its bought to us my Bridal dress designer Vera Wang.

Launched June of 2011, Lovestruck is a musky floral with a standard fruit bomb, cheerful, fresh floral, with pale woody-musky scent. Its wearable and it’s not overly sweet or fruity. The notes included in the perfume are guava, angelica, tuberose, lotus blossom, woods and musk.
As far as the design of the perfume bottles goes, I love the bouquet of aubergine flowers and gauzy ribbon on top. The print ads for lovestruck saw Leighton Meester, Queen B from gossips girl play modern day Romeo and Juliet

Overall, the scent is all summery, with a rich smell with hints of musk and sweetness. Lovestruck provides a feminine fragrance with an edge that dries down to a soft floral finish.

I would recommend it!
