Cartoon couture

When looking at how cartoons are making a wave in fashion, it’s best to start with taking a look at Jeremy Scott’s A/W 2012 collection. Since the unveiling of his collection this winter, we have seen cartoons everywhere in fashion.

Jeremy has untapped into the world of teen blogging culture for this season.  His collection feature unicorns, cartoon prints such as Bart Simpson and many crazy accessories. He has managed to blend the worlds of both cartoons and high fashion together successful. Many critics have responded very positively to his collection. This is not something new for Jeremy, who has previously seen success for his winged trainers for Adidas. The shoes instantly became a phenomenon.

The Jeremy Scott Fall/Winter 2012 Collection has been done very tastefully. He has remained the essence of cartoons into his fashion without making the clothes to over the top or very Avant Garde.

Jeremy Scott has designed for many celebrities such as BeyoncĂ©, Lady Gaga and Britney Spears for her Toxic video. In return celebrities have been seen wearing and supporting Jeremy’s cartooned inspired fashion. Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna have all worn his collection on the red carpet or on stage.

When looking at cartoons and why they have made a major impact in fashion, it’s best to have a look at the creator of the largest animated show in history, Seth Macfarlane. Seth is a writer, producer, cartoonist, singer, multimillionaire and all round genius. He is the creator of the funny show Family guy. Family guy has become the most successful animated show in history; it is a 2 billion dollar empire. Seth is also the creator and writer of other hit shows such the American dad and The Cleveland show.

Thanks to Seth, he has made animations important to us again. Many people who watch these shows see the characters as iconic. The characters from these shows become celebrities in their own right. Jeremy Scott was clever enough to blend two things that many people love right now which are cartoons and fashion. People see these characters as cute and end up buying their merchandise. So who doesn't want to buy a high fashion version of a Bart Simpson shirt ???

Talking about Seth Macfarlane, check him out when he hosts the 2013 Oscars. We can all expect some great comedy from this guy!

Helen Rochfort

I have just come across this amazing brand by Helen Rochfort. She designs handbags, watches and I phone cases. She incorporates pop art and vintage styles together to help create her designs. Since the launch of the brand in 2007 she has received a great amount of press coverage. Her bags have also appeared on ITV’s This Morning.

Her collectable designs are the perfect arm candy for the fashion forward and vintage lovers. I hope you enjoy the collection as much as I have.

Pantone colour of the year: EMERALD GREEN

Pantone has revealed that the colour for 2013 is emerald green. I know many of us are dying to incorporate the emerald green in to our wardrobes. However, it’s always best to start small. Not all Colours or hues suit everyone. Sometimes we can like a colour but when we try it on we may just change our minds. Starting out small allows us to try the colour and reactions out. So, why not go out and buy some green nail polish. You can play around with the emerald green hues. The great thing about nail art is that it’s a small surface area of your body that you are trying the colour on. With Christmas around the corner, green nails will be very festive.

The problem to remember with finding emerald green nail polish is that there aren’t much green options to choose from in stores right now. Around spring we will see more emerald green nail polishes in stores in a larger variety.

Here are some great emerald nail polishes to choose from:

The new fragrance from Marni

Marni have decided to move into the fragrance business.

Just like every other major successful fashion house, Marni is now launching its first ever fragrance. If it’s anything like the line itself then we can expect it to be fun and quirky. The first fragrance is named after the house itself Marni.

In a recent interview Marni’s creative director Consuelo Castiglioni told WWD “It’s a perfume that is quite individual, that doesn’t evoke anything in particular”. It’s for a woman who dresses for herself, who doesn’t follow trends but is sophisticated and also maybe a little eccentric.”

Castiglioni choose a flacon that is distinct and sturdy and unique in shape. Marni has stayed away from a sleek, slender bottle as that has become the norm in the fragrance market. WWD also reported that the smell of the perfume to be “a blend of spicy and woody notes” with an “intense rose oil to inject voluptuousness”.

My verdict so far is that Marni has really thought of all the ways to set itself apart from all the other designer fragrances. From the flacon (in other words the bottle design) to the simple advert to accompany the fragrance launch. Marni has kept everything simple and uncomplicated and that has in turn made everything about it more appealing. I see this as a wise and a successful move for Marni.

Marni’s first fragrance will be launched February 2013.

High street jackets

One thing that the British high street has is many fashionable shops. You can shop on your local high street knowing you can buy everything you need. This season the high street is packed with amazing detailed jackets.

There has become a trend of high street fashion becoming red carpet fashion. This means that we can now wear what our favourite celebrities wear.

 BeyoncĂ© in Topshop

Cheryl Cole in Asos

Amanda Seyfreid in H&M

With the strong power of the British high street we can now afford celebrity style without the huge price tag.

Shops such a Topshop, Zara, Mango, River Island and H&M have become a shopping destination for the rich and famous. These shops now design and cater for a celebrity market, which means we are also able to afford clothes that they wear.

This season look out for the amazing jackets in these shops. Go for leather, studs, colour, prints and floral.
